Undocumented foreign nationals arrested by EMPD

The three men were nabbed for contravening the Immigration Act.

Last Thursday saw the arrest of three undocumented men, aged between 20 and 49, in the Springs and Brakpan areas. The trio were nabbed by EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers.

“The officers were conducting their duties in Fourth Street, Springs, when they spotted a suspicious-looking man,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“The man was stopped and searched, then he started panicking, explaining that he does not have a passport.

“Another undocumented foreign national was arrested in one of the shops in Springs while the third was caught in Goods Road, Brakpan.”

All three were arrested for contravention of Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002). They were taken to the Springs and Brakpan police stations pending further investigation by immigration officials.
