Harnessing the power of play

Ekurhuleni librarians receive training to empower children.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) recently marked a significant milestone in its commitment to invest in Early Childhood Development (ECD) by sending its ECD and library officials to training offered by the childhood development organisation Care for Education.

Care for Education offers LEGO Playbox training that is aimed at improving language, physical and cognitive development through play.

Their programmes train educators to integrate learning through play, communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills.

The training included a generous donation of LEGO resources, enhancing the candidates’ capacity to engage young learners.

“The training equips librarians to transfer their new-found skills to benefit ECD centres and primary school learners,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“By incorporating LEGO into their programmes, our libraries can create engaging and interactive learning experiences, making education more accessible and enjoyable.”

The collaboration between Care for Education and the CoE’s libraries represents a significant advancement in the educational landscape.

By harnessing the power of play, librarians are set to positively impact the learning journeys of children across the city.
