Community spruces up home

Volunteers from the community dedicated their time to revamping the Chance Children’s Home.

Nigel – The Chance Children’s Home was the beneficiary of an act of generosity that demonstrated the strength of the community on July 18.

Volunteers from all over the community committed their time to paint and clean the home’s exteriors and beds, resulting in a clean, inviting space for the children.

“The cheerful new colours and clean spaces significantly uplifted the residents’ spirits. The project saw enthusiastic participation from local community members, showing the collective effort to improve the children’s living conditions and that they are cared for and supported,” centre manager Amanda de Swardt said.

The children displayed their talents through live performances, including singing, dancing, and drama.

“This entertained the audience and gave the children a platform to express themselves and build confidence.”

The kids had hours of entertainment and physical exercise courtesy of a jumping castle, which also gave them a secure and fun space to play and socialise.

“The laughter and excitement were palpable, creating memorable experiences for all,” De Swardt said warmly.

She added that the initiative reinforced the spirit of ubuntu by demonstrating to the children they are valued in their community.

Local sports coaches organised volleyball and badminton sessions, allowing the children to engage in fun physical activities.

The home needs volunteers.

De Swardt pleaded with the community to visit and see how they could make a difference at the home.

“We desperately need volunteers to help us in various roles. Whether you have a few hours to spare or can commit to regular involvement, your time and efforts will be appreciated,” she said.

She expressed gratitude to the corporate and individual sponsors and the stakeholders who contributed to a successful day.

“These organisations and entities provided resources, workforce, and support, exemplifying the spirit of community and collective responsibility,” she added.
