WATCH: Illegal mining lab raided in Selection Park

In Selection Park, the Ekurhuleni multi-disciplinary team seized an illegal mining lab, arresting three miners and confiscating equipment. Operation Vala Umgodi continues its crackdown in Springs.

The Ekurhuleni multi-disciplinary team conducting Operation Vala Umgodi intercepted a mini-laboratory containing illegal mining equipment at a warehouse in Selection Park on Thursday.

The operation, led by Colonel Alastair Subramanian resulted in the apprehension of three illegal miners during the raid.

Springs SAPS communication officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the police confiscated illegal mining equipment, which included phendukas, electric motors, spades and water pumps.

Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi, station commander of Springs SAPS, expressed satisfaction with the arrests and the seizure of the illegal mining tools.

Buthelezi affirmed that Operation Vala Umgodi would persist in combating illegal mining activities in the Springs area.

The illegal miners are scheduled to appear at the Springs Magistrate’s Court today.
