SPCA warns against neglecting pets

The Springs SPCA encourages all to be responsible pet owners.

There are many reasons why pet owners are unable to take care of their pets. This includes short periods such as going on holiday or a more permanent basis, such as migrating.

The Springs SPCA offers some reprieve to residents when they are faced with the hard decision of surrendering their pets, instead of abandoning or neglecting them.

Springs SPCA’s manager and operations manager Annecia Morton says pet owners are welcome to bring their pets to the organisation.

“If the owner is unable to take care of their animal permanently, they are more than welcome to surrender it into our care. If it is for a short period they can board their animals with us.”

She says there are consequences for owners who neglect their pets.

“Consequences can range from notices to comply, warnings and even being charged under the Animals Protection Act.”

She encourages residents to report neglected pets to the SPCA.
