Frederick cycles to save the rhinos

The solo adventure cyclist has been riding for charity for close to a decade.

Solo adventure cyclist, Frederick Swanepoel has a passion for peddling for charity. The Casseldale resident, who returned to Springs after 15 years, says he has been cycling since he can remember.

“I, however, have been cycling for charity for close to a decade. I used to race, but haven’t for a long time. I do all of this on my off time and do it for fun. I have cycled from Gauteng to Cape Town a few times to raise funds as well.”

Frederick mentions some charities he cycled for.

“I have done quite a few outrageous and challenging cycling events in support of Movember (men’s foundation) and ILoveBoobies (breast cancer awareness organisation) to raise thousands of rands and awareness for them.

“Both the Movember foundation and ILoveBoobies support have grown over the past few years, and I was looking for the next challenge.”

When asked what inspired him to cycle for rhino awareness, Frederick said it has been on his mind for a long time.

“I feel the support for the rhinos needs more coverage, support and funds to keep making a difference and conserve our heritage.

“With this initiative, I can give something to the people who made it their mission to help these animals.”

Frederick says he receives support from loved ones but completes these challenges by himself.

“My family and friends support my madness, but on fundraising events, I always do it solo and unsupported. It challenges me on another level.”

This year, he has partnered with The Rhino Orphanage to create awareness and raise funds for the rhino cause.

“This 2024 campaign I plan to make an annual event. Follow me on a journey over 1 000km to raise awareness and raise funds in support of this very worthy cause. Every one of us can help to make a difference in preserving our heritage.”
