No other fatalities reported in subway flooding

Search and recovery efforts have been completed.

Authorities have confirmed that the motorist who died in the flooded Stoffberg Avenue subway was alone in the vehicle.

As previously reported by the Brakpan Herald, heavy rain flooded the underpass yesterday afternoon (February 26).

It is alleged the man attempted to drive through the subway when his vehicle became submerged in water.

He is believed to have drowned.

City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi told the Herald a sedan vehicle was recovered.

“Search and recovery is complete,” he said, adding that SAPS conducted a scene investigation.

Most of the water in the subway had subsided by the evening.
