Metro admits to blunder

The ratepayers were also charged R197.30 for the “cost of notice”.

The Ekurhuleni Municipality has admitted to an error made when printing termination notices.

Hundreds of Springs property owners were appalled when they received unwarranted notices that the city would cut off their water.

All claimed they did not owe the metro a cent in rates.

“We had a system error when printing pre-termination notices, which resulted in all properties in Cycle 924, outstanding and up to date, being included.

“The city has no intentions to disconnect customers who are up to date,” explained metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

The city also charged ratepayers R197.30 for the “cost of notice”.

“The notices are being reversed, and the cost thereof,” said Dlamini.
