Resident starts support group for mothers

The stay-at-home mothers’ support group was formed last month.

Stay-at-home mothers now have a support system with a new mommy’s group.

Rita Higham (32), a mother of two from Geduld, has long wanted to start a social group for mothers so they do not feel like they are going through life alone.

She realised she needed support and knew other mothers would also appreciate it.

“Being a mom, especially a stay-at-home mom, can get lonely.”

This group is not her only support group because she started one in March for working mothers. Rita says the group will offer various emotional services for mothers.

“We will offer a safe space for moms to vent, ask advice and just chat when life gets too hard.

“Many moms struggle with depression and just need someone to listen without judgment.”

Rita said she also had a lot of experience and could relate to the emotional and mental needs of the moms in her group.

“I love to get to know moms going through the same things as me. So, if I make just one mommy happy or put one smile on someone’s face, I will be happy.”

Rita and her group members also do collections for struggling or pregnant moms.

“We are trying to get baby stuff together for a mommy in need in our group due in December.”

She hopes to have a meet-and-greet with all the group members on the first Sunday of October.

“We are going to try to get together once a month.”
