Springs SAPS seizes illicit substances in impromptu search at schools

The Springs police confiscated drugs and pairs of scissors during a school search.

The Springs SAPS searched two schools during a safer school campaign on May 23.

The Crime Prevention Unit, the EMPD, the Gauteng Traffic Police, and community patrollers collaborated on the campaign.

Springs SAPS communications officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the illicit substances found at one school proved the search was successful.

“The members discovered a large amount of dagga, 20 scissors, an e-cigarette and other items,” said Tshabalala.

“These confiscated items were handed to the police station, and the learners found in possession of illegal substances and weapons were handed to the principal and the School Governing Body for disciplinary action.”

To find those responsible for peddling illicit substances to the learners, Tshabalala said the SAPS needed help from the public.

He added that the SAPS would enforce the law against perpetrators in the community.
