Taxi industry’s gives hospital helping hand

The National Taxi Alliance donated equipment for babies and toddlers to the Far East Rand Hospital on Tuesday.

The National Taxi Alliance donated equipment for babies and toddlers to the Far East Rand Hospital on Tuesday.

The hospital benefited from the alliance’s social responsibility programme.

“We visited the hospital’s two wards that cater to babies and toddlers. It was the first time I saw a premature baby, who was about the size of my fist.

“We also considered the mothers of the children because they stay here to look after them,” explained the alliance’s general secretary, Alpheus Mlalazi.

The NTA donated gowns to the women whose children were in the wards.

“We bought them a washing machine and painted the ward to brighten it up. We also connected a decoder so the mothers can have some entertainment,” he added.

Mlalazi said the alliance had officially adopted the hospital and promised to make a meaningful financial contribution at least once a year.

“This equipment will make the environment more homely for the mothers and their children. Some of them, especially the babies born prematurely, have to stay in the hospital for weeks.”

The hospital’s CEO, Dr Sonwabo Lindani, said they appreciate this contribution immensely.

The donation included chairs and tables for the toddlers in the paediatric ward.

“It is commendable to see organisations from the taxi industry giving back to the community. Their efforts have shown us that they care,” Lindani added.
