The body of a 35-year-old domestic worker was found in her employer’s home in Bakerton on Friday afternoon.
After trying to call the woman many times but getting no answer, the employer returned home. Upon arrival, she asked a neighbour to help her get into the yard.
“She climbed over the wall and entered the open garage door. She found her domestic worker face down with her hands bound behind her back,” explained Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the communications officer at the Springs Police Station.
She then ran to the neighbour to phone the police.
“It appeared that she was raped because she did not have clothes on from the waist down,” he added.
The paramedics were called, and the woman was declared dead.
“On closer inspection of video footage at the neighbour’s house, the victim could be seen arriving at the house at 08:23 with a man.
“They could be seen arguing at the gate. She turned around and left him at the gate, but he followed her into the house. He could be seen exiting the yard a little later,” said Tshabalala.
The man was later arrested. Nothing appeared to be missing from the house.
