Fitness is not a trend, it’s the new way of life

Have time but don't know what to do with it? Exercise.

Exercising has always been a touchy subject because it usually involves hours of painful activities. There is, however, more to exercise than just lifting weights or jogging 15km every evening.

Bonny Mothapo demonstrates that anything can be used as an exercise prop.

Exercising is an activity that stimulates your entire being so it’s good for you holistically – mind, body and soul. The results are worth every bead of sweat.
Stigma surrounds the world of conscious and healthy living and people consider it a phase or a passing trend. Lucky for us, we have fitness clubs around Springs that help people reach their health goals.
This publication spoke to personal trainer Bonny Mothapo on alternative exercise and leading a healthier lifestyle.
“The trick is not to be afraid of pain. Not all workouts are meant to make your body feel like it can’t function but a little pain is a good thing. It’s an indication the workout is doing its job on your body.”
The pain, as explained by Bonny, is the body’s build-up of chemicals when it creates and uses energy. Such pain varies with the intensity of the workout.

“There are ways to make your workouts less intense but you can’t rule out a little discomfort altogether.”
With the world coming out of Covid, people had to find alternative ways to stay healthy while saving money.
Bonny recognises that most people shy away from gym subscriptions because they don’t have the time or they don’t know what to do or they can’t afford it.
“There are a variety of ways to stay fit. There is hiking for outdoor lovers and there is aerobics, dance and box fit for people who like rhythmic movements,” said Bonny.
“It is important to design an exercise regime suited for you and your needs. If working out alone is not your thing, group sessions are highly recommended.”
Bonny said exercising in groups creates a support structure for some people and helps hold them accountable for their fitness goals.
“There are many bodyweight exercises that you can do that don’t require gym equipment,” advised Bonny.
“There is a world of information and programmes that you can try to see what works for you. Do not stick to just one thing but challenge yourself by setting goals.”
