Commuters targeted by robbers in a white Toyota Quantum

The Quantum has been seen on Ermelo, Welgedacht and Grootvlei roads

The Springs SAPS are warning the public about thugs targeting commuters.
“We have had many complaints about a white Toyota Quantum with men that are robbing unsuspecting commuters.
“The Quantum has been seen on Ermelo, Welgedacht and Grootvlei roads,” explains Sgt Themba Tshabalala, communications officer of Springs SAPS.
The bogus taxi picks commuters up and once inside the victims are robbed of their belongings.
Lyric Tau, PRO of Springs Taxi Association, confirms that they are aware of such occurrences.

“People need to be vigilant before they even flag down a taxi. All vehicles associated with our organisation sport green stickers on the left, below the windscreen,” adds Tau.
The stickers have unique numbers that identify each taxi that belongs to the association.
“If the taxi is one of ours, it will be very simple for us to identify the owner of the Quantum. But if the taxi has no sticker, then it is not affiliated with the Springs Taxi Association,” he says.
Tau encourages commuters to only catch taxis at taxi ranks and not on the side of the road.
