Sewage a major headache for Dal Fouche family

Resident is fed-up with lack of action from council which has left her home a smelly, health hazard.

Dal Fouche resident Annalize Keller is frustrated with the sewage problem plaguing her home.
According to the Moepel Avenue resident, she has reported the matter to the municipality since October 2021, but the problem persists despite temporary fixes.
“There is no comfort when your place is surrounded by sewage every other week. The metro is fully aware of what is going on and they do nothing,” said Keller.

The Keller family has been living with the unbearable situation for months.

She said they issued her a reference number, but it’s been a month now and nothing has been resolved.
“I am concerned about my family’s health. I am unable to walk through my home because of the sewage. We have a dog, and one of my son’s bedrooms is near the drain, and you cannot breathe in his room due to the smell.
“It is now really unacceptable because we pay our municipal account on time every month, but we have to live like this,” she said.

With the sewage running into the street from the family’s yard, Keller said her neighbours have even called to ask about the problem and offered to help as she waits for assistance from the metro.
Ward councillor Thulani Simelane said he is not aware of the matter that the family is going through and will try by all means to get the metro to attend to it as soon as possible.
“It is not the first time I heard about the sewage problem in that area. The roads in that area are not stable and I have spoken to the Department of Roads to come take a look because when it rains the flow of water is not directed in the right manner. That is why sewage becomes an issue. The area needs more drains to avoid sewage problems,” he said.
Simelane added he will attend to the matter and try to assist as much as he can.
