Participants of all ages and genders were undeterred by the morning showers, as they prepared to meet their opponents.
“One of the best things about it is that there is no limit as to who can arm-wrestle,” said Rosemary Botha, the club’s founder.
Botha (50) started arm-wrestling in 2007 and achieved a seventh place on the right arm at the World Armwrestling Championships in the USA in 2010.

Cheri Marais of Lynx Polokwane won both the left and right arm categories for u-15 girls.

It was a rough start for Rihalda Nortje from Supernova when she lost to Dolleen van Zyl of Pain & Gain. Nortje settled for fifth place in the senior ladies u-70kg left arm category, while van Zyl was fourth.

She went on to take the top spot in the u-18 girls’ right arm event.
Heinrigh Nel from Pain & Gain won both the left and right arm categories for the u-15 boys.
In the masters’ category, Willem Delport from PowerPro KZN proved that both his arms can handle the heat when he won twice in his category.

Hanel Wilkinson from JAWS was determined not to make it easy for Reinette Cripps of Pain & Gain.

“We really just want as many people as possible to learn about the sport, and even try it out,” added Botha.
She hopes to take her team to the world championships in Dieppe, France, in September.
Supernova is affiliated with the national body of arm-wrestling in the South, the Armwrestling Association of South Africa.
Based in Springs, it is a safe environment for everyone to learn about the dynamics and techniques of this sport.
