Knitting marathon coming to Springs

Local NPO Machknitz will host a 25-hour knitting marathon on March 19.

Local NPO Machknitz will host a 25-hour knitting marathon on March 19, which it will be broadcasting live on its Facebook page.
Machknitz wishes to spread its passion for knitting as far and wide as possible and encourages Springsites of all ages to join them in this unprecedented event.
A successful advertising campaign has resulted in the marathon becoming not only a countrywide event but also an international one with an eager knitter from England agreeing to stream her own knitting event at the same time.
Hundreds of knitting machines will be set up on the day and the NPO aims to hire 200 knitters to take part.

With such a mighty force, the NPO aims to knit 2 500 blankets, all of which will be donated to the Springs community.
Qualified mechanics will be constantly on hand to maintain the machines and repair them when needed.
Machknitz’s weekly workshop will remain operational and it encourages as many people as possible to join it every Wednesday.
“It’s all about community,” said Machknitz founder Adri Grib.
“We want to get people together who love knitting as well as people who want to give it a try the first time.”
