Bikers bring toys for the children at home

“Our purpose is to improve the lives of the children who have been abandoned by their families.”

Harley Owners Group Gold Rand Chapter members visited Chance Children’s Home and Nurturing Centre on Sunday to deliver toys to children.
Assistant director of the Harley Owners Group Gold Rand Chapter Martin Pelser said this is not the first time they have supported the home.
“I asked members of our group to do a double donation of toys and assist them with renovations,” said Pelser.
They selected Chance after Pelser had the opportunity of meeting a staff member at a store while buying groceries for the children’s home.
“I had seen him on two occasions buying stuff for the home. I asked if he was buying for a shop or a tuck shop and he told me it was for a children’s home.

“I had about 70 blankets that I needed to give to a charity and asked if I could donate to their home because I saw the need was greater than I imagined,” he said.
Pelser added they will be conducting ongoing donations, ranging from toys to food and building materials.
“Our mission right now is to start renovating the home. We want to fix the roof, including waterproofing and painting, replacing windows, plumbing work, new ceilings, paint the inside and outside of the buildings, and hopefully get the bus repaired and on the road. We also want to get industrial washing machines for the laundry,” said Pelser.
They have called on several sponsors to assist with this task and the responses have been phenomenal.

“Our purpose is to improve the lives of the children who have been abandoned by their families. They did not ask to be here. We need to at least make their environment one that is safe and clean,” added Pelser.
He told the Advertiser that on December 18 they will also host a Christmas party for the children and would love it if people would assist with gifts.
“The children range from two to 18 years, both boys and girls. Chance can coordinate and let people know what age they need to get a gift for, as they have the list with such info,” he said.
