Security guard fatally shot during business robbery

The robbers fled with R830 and cellphones valued at R2 500.

A 41-year-old security guard was killed and an elderly woman (70) was sexually assaulted during a business robbery in Selection Park last Friday evening.
The woman and her husband were asleep when they were awakened by a knock at the bedroom door.
After the woman opened the door, three robbers entered the room and harassed the woman’s husband into giving them the code for the alarm system.
When he gave them the wrong code, the robbers recognised it was wrong and said it was different from the code he’d given them before.

They grabbed the couple and forced them into a storeroom, where they tied them up and then left.
Two robbers later returned to the storeroom and cut the woman loose.
They searched her to see if she had anything hidden in her pants.
The pair then took her upstairs and ordered her to call the security guard, Ernesto Januario Muando (41), a Mozambican national.
When he came up the stairs, they shot at him and he ran out to the main gate, but they shot him again and he collapsed and died on scene.
The robbers fled with R830 and cellphones valued at R2 500.
A case of murder, business robbery and sexual assault has been opened at the Springs Police Station.
