“We try to give back to the community all year round, but this was the initiative we decided upon for Nelson Mandela Day. We had to postpone the event due to level four lockdown, but I’m happy with what we were able to achieve,” said Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Sgt Kgomotso Ralesenyeho, Sgt Manyako Maila, Sgt Dineo Badi and Springs CPF PRO Arles Baloyi at the handover at Payneville Primary School.

“There are many young girls who cannot afford sanitary pads and end up missing school. This is one less thing for them to worry about.”
Ramphora said the majority of the recipients are girls from nearby informal settlements who often come to school not having had breakfast in addition to having to deal with their periods.
