Hope & Halos to honour healthcare workers

They hope to raise enough funds to bake enough for the staff at Life Springs Parkland Hospital, Netcare N17 Hospital and Vita Nova, whose nursing staff have forgone their salaries.

Hope & Halos wants to spend its Mandela Day paying tribute to the healthcare workers of Springs.
The NGO says healthcare workers have placed their lives at risk every day during this pandemic. They will be handing over baked goods to staff at local hospitals.
“To do this, we need your assistance. Please find it in your heart to make a donation, no matter how small, to enable us to get the cupcakes made.

“We are blessed with our beautiful community who stands together through thick and thin and no matter what people say about Springs, nobody can deny the good hearts and willingness to assist others.
“Please help us show them our appreciation in a small way,” said Hope & Halos director Louise Mawhinney.
They hope to raise enough funds to bake enough for the staff at Life Springs Parkland Hospital, Netcare N17 Hospital and Vita Nova, whose nursing staff have forgone their salaries.
“We wanted to also distribute to the Far East Rand Hospital, but they have a staff complement of 1 300 and we just don’t have the finances available to be able to do that at this time.
“We are getting the cupcakes done at cost at R6 each. If we raise enough, we can include Far East Rand Hospital, but for now we have no choice but to exclude them as hard as it is for us,” said Mawhinney.

The organisation said it had initially planned a mass ride to deliver the cupcakes, but due to the current restrictions on gatherings, they will just drop them off.
They will be accepting donations until July 17. To donate to Hope & Halos, contact Mawhinney on 082 463 1891.
