Residents frustrated with lack of maintenance at community pool

Olympia Park no longer the pool it used to be.

Springs residents are frustrated and angry with the state of the Olympia Park swimming pool in Geduld.

The pool appears as if it has not been cleaned in months and is covered in algae and grass.

Residents lament it is no longer possible for them to swim in this once prestigious and clean pool.

In addition, the grass surrounding the pool has not been cut in months, causing further frustration.

In a Facebook post showing the state of the pool, Kelly Clarke uttered his grievances by stating: “I’ve lived in this town all my life and I’ve never seen it this bad.
“The council just doesn’t care anymore.”

Pumps have been stolen from the pump room, as well as electric wires.

Ward councillor Thulani Simelane said: .”It’s very sad to see the pool in this state.

“Many schoolchildren use the pool for extracurricular activities and now they have nowhere to swim.

“The metro says it doesn’t have the funds to replace the pumps so we as the community want to ask any stakeholders to come forward and help us fix the situation.”
The Springs Advertiser is awaiting comment from the City of Ekurhuleni.
