Men arrested for possession of illegal cigarettes

Further investigations revealed the cigarettes were transported from Brakpan to Delmas and then to Springs.

Springs police arrested two men in Geduld on Monday evening for possession of illegal cigarettes.
The arrests were part of the stop-and-search operations conducted by the SAPS, which yielded good results when police pulled over two occupants in a white Nissan bakkie.
Fifty boxes of illegal cigarettes valued at R1.5-million were found.

The pair was questioned and failed to produce documents proving they had bought the cigarettes.
Further investigations revealed the cigarettes were transported from Brakpan to Delmas and then to Springs.
According to police, the duo confirmed the cigarettes were illegal in the country and that they distributed them around the country.

Acting Spring SAPS station commander Col Marius Lubbe applauded the officers for their commitment in making Springs a safe place and for squeezing out crime in the precinct.
The police officers involved in the arrest are WO Oelef Demeyer, Sgt Mpho Dire and Const JP Nichols.
