Take part in the Fatima Feast from the safety of your car

Fatima Feast to look a little different this year

The annual Fatima Feast, which is a highlight on the Springs social calendar, is set to take place on September 27 this year.
Due to the current regulations, however, the celebrations will look a little different this year, with attendees enjoying the festival from their cars.
Attendees will be treated to the best of Portuguese cuisine, music and dancing.
The feast will, in part, form part of the centenary celebrations of the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

In 1920 the Catholic Dominican Order purchased a plot of land on the far edge of a new development area known as Springs Extension.
The building erected was basically a corrugated iron shed with an earthen floor bought second-hand from a recently closed-down mine in the Germiston area and transported to Springs.
This basic structure became the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and is still in use today as a hall.
The present church building was completed in 1936, followed by a chapel in Selcourt in 1974 to accommodate the ever-expanding Catholic community.
The Dominican order (priests and nuns) have therefore played an extremely important role in the lives of the Springs community over the last century, with involvement in parish ministry, mission work, teaching and community projects.
