A 43-year-old man died on September 2 in Welgedacht after he was assaulted by community members.
It is alleged the man was caught stealing money and electronic equipment from a house in Welgedacht.
A member of the community raised the alarm and the man was apprehended and all the stolen property was recovered.

He was then assaulted with sticks and stones and sustained serious injuries to his head.
Police were summoned to the scene and a case of house break-in was opened.
Seeing the gravity of the injuries the man sustained during the attack, police called an ambulance and he was transported to the Far East Rand Hospital under police guard.
The man later died at the facility and a murder docket was opened.

Springs SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe condemned the community for taking the law into their own hands.
She requested the community to work with police to combat crime and further stated that any person arrested for any crime must be handed over to police to face the law.
