Virutal Parkrun eases lockdown boredom

Due to lockdown restrictions, the Parkrun has been cancelled and replaced with a virtual event.

The Parkrun event in Springs has been very popular with sports lovers and athletes for a long time.

The Parkrun is a free weekly run where participants run five kilometres at a comfortable pace in the quickest time they can.

It is a pleasant way for many people to unwind, maintain their fitness and try and beat their own personal best times.

The run is also a social event, with participants often running in large groups.

For many it is a time to meet up with friends and family and enjoy an active morning together.

However, due to lockdown restrictions, the Parkrun has been cancelled and replaced with a virtual event.

For the virtual Parkrun, participants run in their own area every Saturday and then upload their times and a picture of them running onto Facebook.

This alternative has proved to be very popular, with many members proudly posting their time, routes and selfies on

Facebook, many taking their dogs with them.

Treadmill runs are also allowed for those not so eager to brace the morning winter temperatures.

Local runner Barbarra Neuhoff, running in the 60 to 65 age range, posted her impressive time of 28 minutes and 34 seconds.

Chevonne Nortje of Parkrun encourages everyone to get involved, and not let the lockdown get in their way of enjoying the event.
