NPOs partner to curb food insecurity during Covid 19 lock period

Duduza -Two NPOs from Bluegum View, Virtue Corporate Group and World Savers, partnered with Rise Against Hunger on Saturday, for their poverty alleviation initiative.

The initiative aims to support and empower vulnerable children in the area.

One hundred and eight households received healthy dietary soup sachets, while 423 children were fed on the day.

Project director Clement Khumalo from Virtue Corporate Group says: “South African government is struggling to control the spreading of Covid -19.

“Many people across the nation are subjected to extreme poverty, hunger being a major factor.

“With the initiative we wanted to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry, also to assist families which are in dire need.

“We are appealing to each and every individual to kindly contribute to making a difference within our communities.”

Attendees received counselling services from World Savers Organisation, and they were also educated on sexual harassment, domestic abuse and trauma counselling.

Unemployed mother of three Nthabiseng Mlaba (36) says: “This means a lot to us as the community, we are truly thankful and grateful to both organisations as well as Rise Against Hunger.

“May they continue with the wonderful work they are doing.?”

Another happy beneficiary Nomgqibelo Kumalo says: “The soups will make a huge difference with keeping families warm while providing great healthy benefits, especially with winter upon us.

“Seeing community members thrive to improve the lives of their neighbours is a true definition of Ubuntu.”
