Police search over 5 000 people as part of Operation Okae Molao

Police conducted raids from 3am until 12noon in the CBD, KwaThema and Daveyton.

The Springs Police, along with the EMPD and District Ekurhuleni, held a joint Operation Okae Molao in and around Springs last Thursday morning.

Operation Okae Molao, which means “Where is the law” in SeSotho, aims to restore the rule of law and reduce crime.

The joint operation by the police and EMPD was a success.

Police conducted raids from 3am until 12noon in the CBD, KwaThema and Daveyton.

Roadblocks were conducted on Tonk Meter Drive and Paul Kruger Highway.

Police also visited two second-hand car dealerships and searched 11 premises.

The final figures for the day were;

• 5 672 people searched

• 1 500 vehicles searched

• One suspect arrested for possession of explosives and alcohol

• One suspect arrested for possession of dagga

• Two suspects arrested for possession of drugs

• Four vehicles impounded

Motorists were understanding as they were stopped to have their cars searched.

• Five illegal shebeens closed

• Five J534 traffic fines issued to the value of R51 900

• Five J534 fines issued for non-complying liquor outlets to the value of R6 000.

Police also confiscated a generator, a gas bottle and a steel rod.
