Suspects arrested after attempted theft

The unknown suspect was taken to Far East Rand Hospital.

A suspect was wounded in the buttocks while fighting with a security guard in Geduld last Wednesday morning, says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The complainant was in her house when she saw an unknown suspect passing by her house a few times before jumping over the wall into her garden.

The week before, her 9kg gas bottle was stolen from the garden and she suspected he might do the same.

Seeing this, the complainant called a private security company who responded immediately.

Upon the security guard’s, he found the suspect in the back of the garden trying to loosen the gas bottle.

The security guard asked the suspect what he was doing and the suspect tried to jump over the back wall, but couldn’t manage.

The suspect turned around and charged at the guard with a small knife in his hand.

The security guard had his firearm drawn when the suspect attacked him and they fell to the ground struggling with each other.

The suspect cut the security guard with the knife and during the struggle the gun went off, hitting the suspect in the buttocks.

The suspect was then incapacitated and arrested.

The unknown suspect was taken to Far East Rand Hospital.

A case of attempted murder and attempted theft have been opened.
