Carnival comes to the village for 50th anniversary

Residents also had the opportunity to have fun at a themed photo booth complete with accessories.

The Springs Retirement Village was buzzing with activities as the carnival came into town on Thursday morning.

Methodist Homes, which owns the retirement village, was celebrating its 50th birthday and treated the residents to a dazzling display by Tandem Flame Entertainment.

Although the company was doing it’s 10th show, the performers put on quite a show which residents were able to participate in.

Some residents showed off their hula hoop skills, others were the magician’s assistant, most were content to simply enjoy the show.

Residents also had the opportunity to have fun at a themed photo booth complete with accessories.

Landi proved playing with fire is not as dangerous as it seems during her hula hoop show.

Taking things back to the good old carnival days, residents also indulged in sweet treats such as candy floss, ice cream and popcorn and played games like throw-the-hoop.

MC for the day Morgan, who is also a flame eater, was thrilled to spend the day with the residents of the village who she says have lost none of their spunk.

“Aging doesn’t change who you are.

“It’s a chance to celebrate your uniqueness and individuality,” says Morgan.

Alongside the 50th celebrations, Methodist Homes was also running a one-of-a-kind photo competition.

Residents were invited to submit a photograph of themselves taken approximately 50 years ago.

Crazy P reached vertigo-inducing heights on his unicyle as he put on a show at the Springs Retirement Village.

The winner would then go on to have their photo taken by a professional photographer, receive a special gift and have their image appear on Methodist Homes marketing campaigns.

At the village, Elaine McDonald emerged as the winner, with Christine Langly and Ivan Smith coming in second and third respectively.
