Police arrest two for smash and grabs in CBD

She put the phone in-between her thighs and the suspect broke the window and grabbed the phone and ran.

Springs police have arrested two suspects linked to the recent smash-and-grabs in the CBD, says Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The arrests happened last Thursday.

In the first incident, the driver was on the phone when the suspects first noticed her.

She put the phone in-between her thighs and the suspect broke the window and grabbed the phone and ran.

Later that same day, the same suspects tried to rob another lady but police who were nearby gave chase.

One suspect ran into a car and was taken to hospital under police custody.

The other suspect was arrested on the spot.

Both will be charged with common robbery.

Police have urged motorists to be vigilant when driving, especially on Plantation Road by the bridge.

Cars coming from the TVET college side and on the ramp from Springs West Road are at risk.
