Striders Athletics Club hold annual Mandela Run.

All runners donated a t-shirt as an entry fee and various charities showed up to donate funds and clothes for Norah’s Educare Centre.

Despite the frigid temperatures, the Striders Athletics Club and other members of the community gathered at Veritas Senior School for their annual Mandela Run called the “67 Minutes”.

The occasion serves to celebrate his legacy and commitment to human rights.

Runners from all over Springs showed up to support the cause.

All runners donated a t-shirt as an entry fee and various charities showed up to donate funds and clothes for Norah’s Educare Centre.

In addition, many runners also donated old toys, clothing and books, all of which will go to the school.

Norah’s Educare Centre suffered severe damage from a storm that swept through Putfontein a couple of years ago.

The funds collected will go toward rebuilding parts of the school that were damaged during the storm.

Manjoh provided packs of mealie pap and East Rand plastic donated refuse bags.

Annie Arbuckle gave an inspirational speech, reminding all the runners what the day was about and expressed her admiration for the sponsors for their donations as well as all the runners who showed up.

Hot coffee and tea was offered to warm the runners up as well as some light snacks before the run.

The Springs Rotary Club was also present to donate clothes and will be responsible for the distribution of items and funds.

The run/walk started off with the traditional gunshot from a cap gun.
