In loving memory

According to Manuel’s daughter Olga, “Everyone called him Manny or Oom”.

 

Deceased: Manuel Saturnino Farinha de Gouveia died on Thursday night from cancer.

Family: He is survived by wife Felismina, two daughters and four grandchildren.

Manuel was born in 1949 on the Island of Madeira and immigrated to South Africa when he was 14 where he would go on to affect the lives of many.

According to Manuel’s daughter Olga, “Everyone called him Manny or Oom”.

“He loved his motorbikes and always enjoyed his bike runs on Sundays.

 

“He was passionate about his life’s work at Elco Butchery in Largo where he worked for 35 years.

“He then moved his business to Strubenvale where it continued to thrive even more.”

She goes on to say that Manny was “A good friend who was always willing to help someone in need”.

Manny was very involved with the Springs Community and the Catholic Church for many years, organising feasts and fund-raising events. He supported many people when they battled to get by.

He always had spare meat around which he was more than happy to share.
