Come and lend a hand at the Roadhouse

Scheepers and Ferreira ask that people donate anything they can, be it a teddy bear or a bar of chocolate.

Manny Ferreira and Chantelle Scheepers have taken it upon themselves to start their very own charity, and welcome all people from Springs to participate and lend a hand.

The event will take place on Saturday at the Holiday Inn Roadhouse which is on 3 Short Street, Springs Old, and starts at 8am.

They ask that residents open up their hearts and donate blankets and food parcels.

For entertainment, they will have a canine unit on display courtesy of the Springs CPF as well as a jumping castle.

Shceepers and Ferreira have worked closely with East Rand Stereo, and will be on broadcasting from the Roadhouse on the day.

Scheepers and Ferreira ask that people donate anything they can, be it a teddy bear or a chocolate.

Their charity is aimed at everyone in need in Springs, but their primary demographic will be the homeless and the elderly.

After the event ends at 3pm, Ferreira and Scheepers will start handing out the donated items to churches and old age homes.

They will put all the items in hampers so that everyone will receive something of everything

When asked what made them decide to start their own charity, Scheepers says she saw a man handing out food parcels at the Springs Senior Citizens centre, and was inspired to make a change in her community.

“I love helping other people, especially old people and children,” says Scheepers.

Ferreira says that seeing people sleeping in the streets at night in Geduld was the reason he decided to get involved.

Ferreira says he is excited to see how people will react and hopes he will make this event a regular occasion in Springs.
