Sibusiso finished second in the provincial mathematics competition

“We are expecting him to perform to his best abilities in the provincial competition to be able to progress to the nationals.”

KwaThema – A Grade Three learner, Sibusiso Ndebele from Theo Twala Primary School, has taken second position in the provincial mathematics competition held at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, in Newtown, Johannesburg, on October 24.

Ndebele, the nine-year-old, represented Ekurhuleni in the provincial Mental Maths Challenge.

His teacher and coach, Ntombizodwa Sedia, says they are proud of his achievement.

“He has been excelling in the competition since it started on September 5.

“He obtained the first position in the local and district competitions on September 5 at Masimini Primary School.

“We decided to enter him for the competition because we identified he has the brain to crunch the numbers, and that he enjoys mathematics more than the other learners.

“In class, he solves mathematical problems faster without using counters, rather using his brain.”

Sedia says to prepare for the competition they stayed behind after school for extra lessons.
