My Sunday School teachings were put to the test.
The movie is about a young girl from the village of Magdala who resists the traditional roles of women in society and takes the opportunity to rebel by following the newly famous Jesus and his disciples.
I can live her rebelling against her Jewish traditions, but I get stuck at her becoming a disciple of Jesus.
It blew my mind!
To my knowledge, all of the disciples were male, until the very end of Jesus’ life.
The mention of women ever being with them was in the capacity of carers.
In the movie, Mary starts to preach and baptise new converts.
So Jesus had a female disciple?
If there is any truth to it, I need a sermon on this one point.
