“We’re not on strike,” says Sassa Springs employees

“Most people walk for miles to get to Springs and they don’t have transport, how are they suppose to get to Alberton?” says Rhoda Alberts.

Residents are frustrated with the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) after employees told them they are not on strike and are unable to help them.

Rhoda Alberts, one of the residents, says: “How long are they ‘striking’ because it’s been two months plus that they are refusing to help people.

“The one man even had the audacity to say ‘if we want to help you, we will help you, otherwise you can leave’.

“The fingerprint machine has been ‘broken’ for months now.

Fellow resident Nathaniël Cannon also shared similar sentiments and explained how he has been waiting for months to hear about his application for a Sassa grant.

Head of communication at Sassa Paseka Cornelius Letsatsi denies that Sassa employees are on strike or that beneficiaries were told to go to Alberton.

“It would be appreciated if exact locations where beneficiaries have been turned away could be provided to Sassa to be able to investigate and address the matter.

“This includes the Tsakane Post Office, local office, KwaThema and Springs,” says Letsatsi.

Letsatsi goes on to say that beneficiaries who have complaints or questions about their cases can call the call centre at 0800 60 10 11 or 011 241 8300.
