Springs pharmacy ensures community members are in good health

Springs pharmacy cares about people's wellbeing.

On Wednesday, in honour of Nelson Mandela Day, a local family pharmacy in Springs central had a free sugar level and blood pressure testing for the community to ensure they are in good health.

The pharmacy found it important that they made this day possible because most people suffer from high or low blood pressure and high or low sugar levels.

Shahedah Essack, Amina Seedad, Morcean Mohammed, Ally Johnson, Herman Khomola and Saleem Motaung outside the pharmacy handing out treats.

These people are not always aware of it because it is expensive to get the tests done and people will spend long hours not being attended to in hospital queues.

The pharmacy allowed people to walk in and sit at the testing stations to get the tests done.

Over 450 people were tested. There were three sugar levels and three blood pressure testing stations on site.

It is important to know these levels because blood pressure is related to your cardiovascular health and this will tell you how healthy your heart is.

The benefits of knowing your sugar level are to know whether or not you’re at risk of diseases such as sugar diabetes or at risk of having heart failure.

The manager, Morcean Mohammed says that if they found that the results were not satisfying they would ask the patients to come back for two more tests. They want to ensure that the results are actually alarming and weren’t triggered by something they may have eaten prior to taking the tests.

He also mentioned that if after the third attempt, and the results are still dissatisfying, they would suggest that the patient goes to a clinic or hospital for diagnosis.

They added that these two tests were so important to them because they are affected by lifestyle choices that can be changed.

Morcean Mohammed said. “You don’t start with medication. It starts with lifestyle changes.”
