June 23

• The Avenues is launching it’s very first mobile library and learners are encouraged to join in and enjoy learning to read. Students who are studying teaching will be on hand to encourage and promote the wonderful world of reading in the shop next to Checkout from 10am to noon. There is no cost. June 24

• Hykie Berg will be sharing his story of hope with members of the congregation at Pinkster Herlewingsentrum Springs at 10am. The aim is to alert the youth to the dangers and consequences of using drugs. Contact Past Walter du Bois on 011 811 5669 (until 2pm) or 082 427 3602.

June 25 to 29

• Selcourt Methodist Church will be running a holiday club at the at the church at 7 Granada Road, Selcourt. It’s open for children in Grade R to Grade Six (ages six to 12). June 30

• The movies are coming to Springs. Join The Avenues as they host a movie morning for children from 10am to noon. There is no cost and each attendee will receive a box of popcorn. Carolynn Weedon on 082 443 3213.

• The Pink Pistols will be hosting a blanket run at Cruise Inn Pub and Grill at 7 Denne Road, Brakpan. There will be live entertainment, a bonfire and cash bar. Blankets will be donated to the homeless and those in need. Contact Jinx Terblanche on 076 482 9157 or Nickita Foxcroft on 084 821 2923.

July 3

July 4

• Join Palm Springs for a morning of fun and games at their carnival morning. Have fun playing old-fashioned games and have your face painted, do some crafts and be entertained by the roaming Busker. July 11

July 22 to 27

• Hospice East Rand invites you to join them on a trip to Hazyview in Mpumalanga. Spend five nights at Hotel Numbi and enjoy day trips to the following: Sabie Valley Coffee, Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, Bosch Ceramics Studio, Perry’s Bridge Trading Station, Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, Sabie, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and Africa Silks Farm. • Join Hospice East Rand for Great Balls of Fire, the tale of Jerry Lee Lewis starring Jonathan Roxmouth. The bus leaves Hospice’s offices at 218 Kemston Avenue, Western Extension, Benoni at 1pm and the show, which is being staged at Montecasino, starts at 3pm. First Wednesday of the month

• Join the Boksburg Hiking club for a meeting at the Atlas Bowling Club on the corner of Denel North and Atlas Road, Bonaero Park. Braai fires will be ready from 5.30pm for a bring and braai and the meeting will begin at 7pm. You will also be able to find out about and book upcoming hikes. Contact Emily Delport on 082 456 4946.
