Geduld dance studio hoping for a spot at the Oos-rand Kunstefees

“I'm confident about their chances,” says owner and instructor Alicia Flemming.

The Backstage Dance Studio in Geduld is waiting on tenterhooks to find out if their dancers will be performing at the Oos-rand Kunstefees.

The festival is due to take place on May 30.

Dancers from the local dance studio have been hard at work trying to qualify for the festival.

“They had auditions last week when they competed against various dance studios from the East Rand.

“The top 20 dancers will then be chosen to perform at the gala event at the Oos-rand Kunstefees,” says owner and instructor Alicia Flemming.

Although this was not the studio’s first time competing, Flemming was proud of how her school of dancers conducted themselves.

“The way they supported each other shows how much we have grown as a family.

“My goal now is to help them become better at auditions as it will improve their future prospects,” says Flemming.

The studio, which is based at the Springs Rugby Club, has grand plans for the future as they plan on competing at the national championships in December.

The group of 30 dancers can do a variety of dance styles, such as modern, energy, salsa bhangra and contemporary.

As for whether or not the studio will perform at the gala event, Flemming is confident her team will do well.

“They have been working very hard and all of them make me so proud.

“I’m confident about their chances,” says Flemming.
