Proud moment for kickboxing sensei

Students of the United Martial Arts Springs recently competed in the South African Kickboxing Championship in Pretoria.

Fourteen of the club’s students qualified to compete in the championships.

Sensei Jaun Naudé says the students did extremely well as most of their students are still yellow and orange belt.

The students who participated in the championships are Dylain Morris, Jimmy Oberholzer, Shante Castelyn, Diwan Groenewald, Hannes Castelyn, Michaela Mienie, Divan Wessels, Pieter Groenewald, Ethan Else, Edward Kies, Berenge Bezuidenhout, Nathan Walker, Jovan Rabie and Vurnique Greyling.

“They competed in open belt divisions and still took first place,” he says proudly.

The United Martial Arts Springs club also had some of their students competing in the Full Contact Ring which is on a very high standard, according to Naudé. Diwan Groenewald took first place in his weight division and Pieter Groenewald took second place in his respective weight division.

The students came back with six South African titles, nine silver medals and three bronze medals.

“All their hard work paid off,” says Naudé.

He says he is very proud of his students who competed in the championships.

“They were all working extremely hard these last few months and going through various trials such as the Eastern Gauteng and Great North trials.

“It’s amazing and I am very proud of them finally getting to compete in the South African Kickboxing Championships,” he says.
