Second Avenue in Geduld without street lights for four months
“It is very dark at night so we are easy targets for criminals,” says Adriaan.
Catharina van Zyl and her husband Adriaan have not had working street lights since December.
They reported the issue to the metro but only received a reference number and no action was taken.
“It is not safe for me to go outside,” says Adriaan.
“I have limited mobility because I use crutches and a wheelchair.
“There are old people on our street who all in their late 70’s.
“It is very dark at night so we are easy targets for criminals.
“They have stolen our ladder and various garden tools.”

The couple says that they are worried about their safety, especially when they come home from church meetings at night.
Their gate can only be opened from the inside of the yard and the couple feels vulnerable because they cannot see anybody approaching them.
The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
