Car guards help get school bag back.

A thief was swiftly caught by alert citizens on Fourth Avenue on Friday afternoon after he allegedly broke into a bakkie parked on Eighth Street.

Christo Jansen was visiting the offices of The Addie when a Springs Advertiser employee Gugu Ngwenya alerted him that a man appeared to be breaking into his car.

“I immediately went outside and we chased the man in the direction he went in,” says Jansen.

The pair went to the parking lot at the Palm Springs Shopping Centre and asked the car guards there if they had seen a man with a school bag.

The trio of Mzimkhulu Dlangamandla, Bonakele Zwane and Elmon Mavindlela said they saw the man and then ran onto Fourth Street.

“We saw the guy in one area of the parking and we chased him down.

“We managed to get the bag back,” says Dlangamandla.

Jansen was grateful to the trio for helping him catch the alleged thief.

“Nobody was injured and we managed to get the bag back, but some of my son’s school books were missing, as well as his glasses,” says Jansen.
