Springs Rugby Club stays on top of the league

Springs Rugby Club win at Olympia Park Stadium.

The Springs Rugby Club overcame difficult playing conditions to beat Vereeniging 22-20 at Olympia Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After play was interrupted by a thunderstorm, the home team lost some momentum and had to change tactics to adapt to the wet conditions.

The ball was slippery and the wet field contributed to the handling errors made.

Coach Ockert Brits was pleased with the results.

“It was a tough game given the conditions, but we pulled through.

“We are obviously excited to be on top of the league, but our job is harder now.

“It’s one thing to be on top and another to stay on top.

“We are now the team that everybody will be gunning for,” said Brits.

Brits was keen to emphasise that although they won, there was still room for improvement going forward.

Keeping their composure during key moments of the game will become even more important if the team wants to remain on top of the Falcons league.

The team will face East Rand United away on Wednesday and will play against Boksburg on Saturday.

Brits will have a full squad available to him as they do not have any players currently out injured.

Cliffie Viljoen scored two tries with contributions from André Smith, Garnett Parkin John Zondagh.

Brits hope their winning streak will continue.

The game on Saturday will start at 4pm at Olympia Park Stadium.
