JUST IN: Man murdered behind Springs Rugby Stadium this weekend

A man was murdered. His body was wrapped in a blanket and a plastic cover had been placed in the back of his bakkie. His wallet and keys were placed on his body.

A man was murdered behind the Springs Rugby Stadium between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Springs Police confirmed on Monday.

Capt Johannes Ramphora says a man walking past the stadium on Saturday saw a bakkie parked facing the stadium.

“At 5.30am on Sunday, he passed the area again and saw the bakkie still standing there, but that it was facing in a different direction,” he says.

The man called security who then called the police.

“They went to check the vehicle and found a dead body in the back of the bakkie.”

The body was covered with a blanket and a plastic cover at the back to stop the blood from dripping out of the vehicle.

The body of the deceased was facing down, with his wallet and car keys placed on top of it.

The deceased was identified as Andrei Klein Smith.

“He had an open wound next to his left eye, three deep wounds on the left side of his neck and four open wounds on the right side of his neck, as well as bruises on both his wrists,” says Ramphora.

He was declared dead by ER24 paramedics on the scene.

“Rugby games were played at the stadium on Saturday and the stadium was full.

“Nobody knows what happened after the rugby matches.”

A case of murder has been opened at the Springs Police Station.
