Man shot in the knee in front of wife in Daggafontein

A Daggafontein residence was the target of armed robbers on Sunday evening around midnight.

The complainant and her husband were sleeping when she woke up and saw a light in the passage, similar to that of a torchlight.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police says the couple’s bedroom light was suddenly switched on and three suspects were standing at the door.

“One of the suspects came to the complainant’s side of the bed while the other two went to her husband,” says Ramphora.

The husband woke up and one of the suspects asked him where the money is.

“As the man stood up, one suspect shot at him and he fell on the bed.”

The suspect tied his hands and feet with shoelaces.

Another suspect took a shotgun which was next to the husband’s bed and pointed it in the complainant’s face.

“He told her he will shoot her and proceeded to tie her up as well.”

The suspects searched through the room and took a cellphone, wedding ring, cash and the shotgun.

The alarm went off and the suspects fled the scene.

An ambulance took the complainant and her husband to the Netcare N17 Hospital for medical treatment.

The suspects gained entry through a window on the porch.

“The complainant’s husband was shot in the knee but is stable,” says Ramphora.
