Legends clinch LastManStands title

The semi-finals and finals of the LastManStands cricket league took place at the Olympia Park sports grounds last Sunday.

In the first semi-final match, Liebherr Legends played against the Panthers, who batted first and posted a challenging total of 120 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the Legends scored 121 runs for five wickets in 19.4 overs to secure a nail-biting victory in the last over with one ball to spare.

In the second semi-final, Willowmore played against the Benoni Bench Warmers and scored an impressive 129 runs for eight wickets in 17.3 overs.

The Bench Warmers fell short of the target, managing only 113 runs for eight wickets in 19.4 overs.

This lead to Liebherr Legends and Willowmore facing each other in the finals.

Willowmore won the toss and chose to bat first.

Unfortunately, their batsmen tumbled and they were bowled out in 15.2 overs for a meagre 56 runs.

Liebherr Legends chased the target down with ease, scoring 61 runs for the loss of two wickets in 9.3 overs to secure the title of league champions for the 2017/18 season.

Klaas Smit of Willowmore was the best batsman of the season, scooping the prize of a brand new bat worth R6 000 sponsored by a safety glass company.

The award for best wicketkeeper of the season went to Gavin Llyod of the Panthers, while Leon van Vuuren of Gemengde Bende was named the best bowler of the season.

The best all-rounder of the season award went to Morné van Eeden of Liebherr Legends.

Liebherr Legends outclassed Willowmore in the 2017/2018 final to scoop the championship.

The Legends kept their form this whole season, winning 16 of their 18 games.
