Cansa Go-Kart fund-raising event

Go-Kart participants had fun at the Thunder Valley Speedway at the Springs Mall.

Springs Mall hosted a Lazy Sunday fund-raising Go-Kart event in aid of Cansa at the Springs Mall on Sunday.

“The idea took off from the Shades of Pink activation that took place alongside the launch of the go-karts at Springs Mall,” says Tamara Wittstock from Cansa.

Although they planned a Slo-Go Go-Karting race, it didn’t happen the way they planned the day, due to unforeseen circumstances.

However, the Lazy Sunday fund-raiser continued and 52 people enjoyed the Go-Kart track at Thunder Valley Speedway at the mall.

At the end of the day, all entrants pulled together to help support a good cause at this successful go-kart fund-raising event.

The purpose of the event was to raise awareness on men’s health.

“Many people are not aware that there are non-invasive tests to test for prostate and testicular cancer.

“These include Pballs, full blood prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests and the finger prick PSA test,” says Wittstock.

People do not understand cancer as a whole, what signs to look out for and the way it presents itself to male and females.

“Cancer scares people because they do not understand it.

“We hope to destigmatise cancer with awareness and education. This is why we focus on men’s health.

The money raised will go toward men’s health and PSA testing kits,” says Wittstock.

Davey Decks says there is no shame in getting tested and being safe.

“Prevention is better than a cure,” he says.

According to a Bakerton resident Shaun Naushad, it was fun and for a worthy cause.

“Go-karting is something fun for the children to do on a Saturday and Sunday,” he says.

Cailan Sing (9), also from Bakerton, says he enjoyed the 15 laps of Go-Kart racing and would like to challenge his twin brother Jadon again.

“It was successful for a first-time event and the participants had lots of fun,” says Amoret D’Arrigo, Springs Mall marketing manager.
