A woman was raped by a man at the Peneron Soldiers Base in Flouride Street, Daggafontein on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old woman went to her room at 9.30pm and claims she locked the door, but left the key in the keyhole before going to sleep.
According to Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora the woman woke up to someone touching her body at 10.40pm.
“The woman claims she was penetrated with a finger and the man whispered in her ear that she should keep quiet,” says Ramphora.
When she jumped out of bed and enquired who the intruder was, he asked her to have sex with him.
“She ordered him to leave her room and when he didn’t, she rushed to switch on the light,” says Ramphora.
The woman started screaming and the intruder left her room after she asked him once again to leave her room.
He says the security guard came to the woman’s rescue.
“We are not sure how the man entered the room,” says Ramphora.
Police arrested the culprit who will remain in the police cells until his first court appearance.
