Innocent child threatened by armed robbers

Suspects flee scene in stolen vehicle.

A residence in Molatsi Street, Payneville was burgled on Tuesday.

When a woman opened the door for her niece to enter, she was surprised by two armed suspects who entered the house instead.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the suspects demanded R3 300 in cash.

“A strange request considering it was the exact amount the woman had in her possession,” he says.

One suspect pointed his gun at the woman and threatened to shoot her if she doesn’t hand over the money and also demanded the keys to the Ford Ranger parked outside.

“The suspect turned around and pointed the gun at a four-year-old toddler and informed the woman he will kill the child,” says Ramphora.

When the woman handed over the money and the keys to the vehicle, the suspects ordered her to lie down and covered them with blankets.

The suspects took the toddler and put her in a cupboard, loaded a TV into the Ranger and fled the scene.

Ramphora says the suspects also took cellphones.
